Elizabeth Mitchell

Partner

Elizabeth Mitchell has been representing trade unions as part of the Koskie Minsky Labour Group since 1987. Elizabeth assists unions to obtain and preserve bargaining rights, files complaints of unfair labour practices, advises in contract negotiations, enforces collective agreements through grievance arbitration, and provides ongoing advice and training to trade unions about their responsibilities and the laws that affect them.

Elizabeth appears frequently before administrative tribunals, particularly the Ontario Labour Relations Board and grievance arbitrators, and before courts in judicial review applications. Her clients include unions whose members work in construction, the exhibit and display industry, retail, manufacturing, and the broader public sector. Elizabeth is trained in mediation and facilitated negotiation, techniques she regularly employs to achieve satisfactory resolutions, short of litigation, for her clients and their members.

Elizabeth has once again been recognized in Lexpert as a lawyer who is repeatedly recommended in the labour relations field. She sits as a representative for unions on the Community Advisory Committee to the Ontario Labour Relations Board. She has published several articles in the Canadian Labour & Employment Law Journal, speaks frequently at conferences, seminars, and as a guest lecturer, and has been the editor of the Koskie Minsky Talking Union newsletter.
